Dorothy has 35 years of experience as a senior business executive and present owner in the publishing field.
She has a weekly radio garden show in Winnipeg and writes weekly columns for the Edmonton Examiner. She also does garden tips on Shaw TV.
A former MP (Winnipeg South 1988-1993), Dorothy is very active in local and national community affairs. She served as chair of the Tree Canada Foundation and is the President of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. She is on the executive board of the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians and remains active on a number of other boards, including the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council.
She is an ardent gardener, an avid reader and a devoted mother and grandmother.

Joan's career as a professional journalist started at the Winnipeg Free Press where she was deputy beat reporter at the provincial legislature, assorted city and suburban councils and the various city and provincial courts, as well as doing general assignments. In Europe, she worked as CBC production assistant in London and Rome, dabbled briefly in backroom federal politics, worked as an editorial writer and deputy editorial page editor for the Ottawa Citizen, and later as a regular contributor to Southam News Services. For 11 years, she was Ottawa's political columnist for the Winnipeg Free Press. She has worked as editor of Pegasus Publications Inc. since its founding.
